Wide Area Paging Troubleshooting
In this section we have described some of the basic problems our pager users may experience and the most likely causes/solutions.
If you are unable to resolve the problem yourself or are having a problem not addressed here, please feel free to contact us.
My pager won't switch on
The first step is to reset the pager (WARNING: This procedure will completely reset your pager's memory and you will lose any saved messages stored).
To reset your pager:
- Take the battery out
- Put the battery back in THE OTHER WAY ROUND
- Leave the reversed battery in for approximately 5 seconds
- Remove the battery
- Put the battery back in THE RIGHT WAY ROUND
- Switch the pager on again. You should now hear a 'beep'.
If your pager is still not working, please contact us.
My pager won't vibrate or light up
Check the battery. Even though the low battery indicator may not be on, the battery may be low enough to prevent full operation. This sometimes occurs in order to conserve overall battery life.
If this doesn't work, please contact us.
I'm not receiving messages
There are several possible causes. Assuming you are within coverage area, the most likely reason is the type of building you are in. If the building has a metal roof (as do some warehouses and superstores) this can interfere with the paging signal. Under these circumstances, an improved signal can be obtained by locating the pager closer to a window or door.
If it's not coverage or a metal roofed building, you can try re-booting the pager. This is sometimes necessary to correct interference caused by equipment such as microwave ovens, cellular phones and sometimes PC's. To do this, take the battery out of the pager. Leave the battery out for a few seconds and then replace it. Switch the pager on. You should now notice an improvement in performance.
Please note that it is also important not to locate the pager next to a mobile phone or a PC as both can interfere with the receiving signal.
If you continue to experience problems, please contact us.
I get messages, but they are all scrambled or have flashing boxes instead of letters
The most likely cause is that the area you are in is receiving weak signals and/or the battery in your pager is low.
This can also happen as a result of the pager receiving a mixed signal and is usually only temporary.
If the problem persists it is more likely that the pager has become 'detuned' which can happen if the pager has been damaged. In this case, please contact us to arrange repair/replacement.
My voicemail pager responds with a message that "the person you are calling cannot accept messages at this time..."
This suggests that your mailbox is full. Deleting messages in your mailbox should correct the problem and enable new messages to be accepted.
I've forgotten my pager number
We can obtain the pager number for you. All you need to do is tell us the serial number (which can be found on the back of the pager).
